Yes, I'm picking this blog back up. I have been blogging for a few weeks now about getting my life back in order, and it seems to me that the blog itself has helped me keep focused on doing so. So now I need to pick up the pace in school. I hope that this blog will help me do that.
I'm in a class that is now focusing on "unwinding the belly". The idea is that the belly is the intuitive center in our bodies. With specific breathing practices and certain abdominal massage techniques to help relax you, the soul will be better off for it. It's quite fascinating, actually.
The book we are using as our text is called, appropriately, "Unwinding the Belly: Healing With A Gentle Touch" by Allison Post & Stephen Cavaliere. I have just noticed they have a website as well.
It reminds me of my friend, Tom. Tom is a massage therapist. He's the best massage therapist I've ever come across. And because we have been such good friends for so long, I feel comfortable letting him try new techniques on me. A few years ago, he told me he wanted to try out an "emotional release" on me. I told him to go for it. He dug his fingers into my belly and sides and started forcefully tickling me. The emotion that came out of me was disturbing. I had to make him stop. I just couldn't handle all of that coming out of me at once. If I had been able to let him continue, he says that I would have walked out of there feeling a million times better. I believe it. I've often thought of asking him to do it again, but honestly I'm afraid. Hopefully after this class, and the techniques it teaches to help unwind the belly, I'll be able to do it.

Sounds very interesting! I have a feeling my belly is twisted and knotted up in a horrible way.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine the belly is where most of our energy is either transformed from food to energy from the body, or where our original qi (jing or essence) burns the fires that send energy to the rest of the body. The dantian or life gate is located about 1.5 inches under the navel. There are some schools of thought that every disease can be treated through the "center". If we could all unwind our bellies I am sure it would change the world!
